We kicked off Native American Heritage Month Wednesday evening by gathering in West Market Square in downtown Bangor. Members of our team, in collaboration with The Downtown Bangor Partnership, invited community members to join us in a Welcome Ceremony to honor and celebrate the month.
Lauren Stevens, our Director of Culture, Connection & Support Services opened with the welcome song, which was followed by a walk along the sacred Penobscot River led by Saige Purser, our Co-Director for the Center of Wabanaki Public Health.

The event was the beginning of a month-long series of events designed to celebrate the indigenous peoples of this area. For a full calendar of events this month, you can view those on our calendar here.
