The mission of this department is to provide high-quality, culturally relevant behavioral health services, substance use treatment, and housing support services to our Wabanaki community and other Indigenous people. Formerly known as Wabanaki Mental Health Association, we are affiliated with Cornerstone Behavioral Health for clinical case management programs.

Behavioral & Substance Use Treatment Services

What was originally established in 1996, we continues to provide case management, administer free HIV testing, apply Medication Assisted Treatment Services, host wellbriety meetings- among other services. Click here to learn more about our service offerings.

Housing Security and Support Services

We help people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness to find safe affordable and stable housing.   Our goal is to end homelessness and help people achieve stability and independence in the community. We have a Housing Navigator who helps people to link to resources, housing vouchers, locate housing and maintain housing.  We also partner with Community Housing of Maine to offer 14 supportive housing apartments.  Click here to learn more about Community Housing of Maine.

Wabanaki Health & Wellness History

We are Located at 157 Park Street in Bangor. Our organization was originally established in 1996 as the Wabanaki Mental Health Association, to respond to unmet mental health needs in the Native community and provide mental health case management, substance abuse treatment, HIV prevention, medication assisted treatment, and peer run recovery services. The organization became Wabanaki Health Wellness in 2007 and eventually Wabanaki Public health and Wellness; after joining with Wabanaki Public Health. The division offers high quality, culturally relevant services to Native Americans.  The organization partners with a number of local programs to maximize its reach.
