Wabanaki Health and Wellness established its Peer Run Recovery Center in October of 2017 . The center was named “The Wab.
The Wabanaki Peer Run Recovery Center provides a respectful and nurturing community where members are encouraged to participate in experiences of their choosing that will enhance innate abilities, promote recovery, and instill self-worth.”
The Wab Center is an intentionally created space to conduct culturally congruent peer to peer activities for Native Americans that promotes health and wellness in our community. Membership is opened to any adult with a history of mental health needs, recovery challenges; or some other life challenge. Self report is sufficient to establish that history and eligibility. The Wab uses the term “community member” to describe participants of the program. The center is available for our community members general use from 8-4 M-F, unless it is being used for pre-scheduled special event.
The Wab Center offers Vocational, Recovery, and Recreational activities that promote health and wellness in a culturally appropriate way. Participation is free. The Wab is an intentional, trauma informed space where our focus is to:
