Language & Cultural Teachings
The division develops programs that bring together elders, mentors and youth to practice and share cultural teachings and language.
By doing ceremony on a consistent basis the division increases language competence and cultural knowledge.
Music and drumming are an integral part of all cultural language activities. Teaching Wabanaki children’s songs increases early childhood understanding of their language increasing the likelihood of fluency.
By incorporating best practices in suicide prevention and healing from trauma into all language and cultural activities, the division promotes healing and general wellness in the communities.
By increasing opportunities to use the language in all gatherings and all forms of communication, the division normalizes language use and increases fluency.
